The damage specific to a person which allows the Anomaly to affect him/her. Cracks seem to be primarily psychological in nature, although severe physical trauma coupled with psychological strain has also been known to bring about a manifestation. Fanaticism is a potential crack.

There is also some evidence that gammas experience two cracks: a primary and a secondary. Originally, this was only mentioned on Chaz's LiveJournal, but it was recently referenced in the episode Lucky Day.
