February 2009 Gamma
From Shadow Unit Wiki
On February 13, 2009, Solomon Todd commented in his LiveJournal that "I am starting to think my birthday is a cue to the universe to kick in the Interesting Times" and "At least it's warm in the Southlands." [1] Later that morning, Hafidha Gates posted a link to a Kristen Hersh website as "a welcome distraction from the unpleasantness of the day" along with a comment to Chaz Villette that "these doughnuts are lonely without you." [2] The implication is that Chaz and Sol were part of an away team hunting a gamma, while Hafhida and Daphne Worth were still in Washington, DC. In episode 2x07 "Smoke & Mirrors", we discovered that such was indeed the case; the gammas were Carey-Ann Petit and Tameka Santiago.
Second February Gamma?
In the DVD extra "Water Flowing Underground" (dated February 2009), Esther Falkner's "administrative leave looks to drag on through the weekend", which again points to a gamma encounter of some kind. Since "Smoke & Mirrors" does not end with Falkner on administrative leave, Falkner's interlude must have been prompted by a second gamma outbreak.
This outbreak would presumably be in February. However, Falkner's leave might have been due to the second January 2009 case (the "thing in Portland" where "Hafidha and Falkner had handled the cleanup damned well" [3]), as there would (barely) be enough time for a two-week administrative leave between that case and the one in "Smoke & Mirrors", with part of that leave occurring on the weekend of February 6-7, 2009.
