Gates Syndrome

Gates Syndrome, named for Hafidha Gates, is the metabolic syndrome associated with being a beta. Because a beta's brain uses more calories than an alpha's, he or she must consume substantially more calories, even when the beta has not been using his or her ability. When a beta has been using an anomalous ability (or slamming), and especially when a beta achieves breakthrough, the caloric demand can actually exceed the amount the beta's body can absorb.
