Emma Bull listed The X-Files as one of the shows which Shadow Unit would "share DNA with" in the essay Sanding the Oyster: The Origins of Shadow Unit.
Emma and Will Shetterly wrote an X-Files "spec script" for an episode called "Cuckoo", which became the basis for Shadow Unit episode 2x06 "Cuckoo".
